Services & Equipment Available
fcc logo The Family Child Care Center is located off base at 2373 White Circle. The Family Child Care program is an on-base child care service that offers home day care. Many Charleston AFB parents are not aware this program exists. At Charleston AFB our providers have been approved by the Mission Support Group Commander to operate a licensed child care program in their home.

Providers
Providers are able to care for children age 2 weeks - 12 years who are dependents of active duty military, active reservists, retirees and DOD civilians assigned to Charleston AFB. Each provider goes through an extensive training process to become a provider, and is certified in CPR, First Aid, and Food Handling.

Prior to licensing, they are trained in Child Development, Health and Safety, Child Guidance, Nutrition, Child Abuse, Neglect Prevention and Recognition. Background record checks are completed through the Medical Facility, Housing, Security Forces and OSI. After licensing, a monthly unannounced program inspection and quarterly USDA inspection are conducted in each home to ensure Air Force guidelines are being followed.

swingsEach provider is a private business. They set their own fees and charges, as well as hours of operation. Parents are required to sign a contract, and provide a copy of the child's current immunizations and AF357 the first day a child is in attendance. Subsidy programs are available for children 2 and under. Fees are based on total family income.

To find out when the next two-day licensing class to become a provider will begin, please call Sherian Vickers, the FCC Coordinator, at 963-2546.

While a child is enrolled, parents can expect to have developmentally appropriate activities planned for them each day. There will be a variety of activities to include both inside and outside learning opportunities. Some providers even plan field trips for the children. Nutritious, USDA approved meals and snacks are served to all children age 1-12 years who are present at serving times without any additional cost. A copy of the weekly menu and activity plan is always posted in each home.

Spouses of active duty members who live off base, and spouses of retirees will be eligible to Map to Family Child Careparticipate in the Air Force Family Child Care program by affiliating with the on-base program.

If you would like more information about the FCC program, please call Sherian Vickers, FCC Coordinator at 963-2546.
